Nuisance mini-roundabout in Matson

The prospective independent candidate for Matson & Robinswood, Alex McKee, has called for the removal of a mini-roundabout in Matson.

The roundabout, at the junction of Baneberry Road and Norbury Avenue in Matson, has been a cause of minor accidents for years. The Highway Agency’s insistence on replacing junctions with miniature roundabouts meant that this particular junction was replaced a number of years ago.

The first incidents were regarded as being caused by the change from junction to roundabout but over time small accidents are still occurring. It’s the belief of local residents that the incidents are being caused by the narrowness of the road.

It’s difficult for larger cars to drive around this mini-roundabout and so they tend to drive over it. Whilst it’s only small, it is capable of destabilising cars and this has been why there have been some minor accidents here.

I feel that this mini-roundabout offers nothing to the area but is a source of accidents. There was little need to make the change from junction to roundabout and when the road is next resurfaced the Highways Agency should remove this nuisance for the safety and peace of mind of local residents.
